Next Step Tutoring Hoppers Crossing - Is Step walking The Best Exercise?
Next Step Tutoring Hoppers Crossing - Is 'Step' walking The Best Exercise?I read a blog yesterday, called 'Next Step Tutoring Hoppers Crossing,' where they stated that tutors were not knowledgeable of Hopper and I had to disagree. It is my belief that tutors should be more aware of the term Hopper as it applies to cross walking. You see, 'step'walk' are both terms used to refer to a very basic form of physical training.'Step' is used to mean the movement of one foot over another. 'Walk' refers to the movement of the body from side to side. In this example, when learning cross walk through HOP, they would have to complete two steps, and the bottom step needs to be completed before the one below it in order to make the process complete.Hopper, which is the acronym for cross walk or hop is much more complex. You see, one of the challenges of Hopper is that they require a great deal of muscle control, coordination, and balance. To make it easier for a beginner to learn the steps, the tea cher can use a little drill to gradually increase the time given for each step. When a hop is performed correctly, the student performs one joint in a perfect sequence of one-joint steps. With enough practice, you can increase this task of completing one joint in an easy fashion, and eventually can perform one joint in an identical fashion. But that takes time, and time is something I do not have. So I turned to my cross walk trainer for help. His name is Dr. Mike Yerkovich, and he said, 'Yes! There are two fundamental mechanics that we need to teach you when learning cross walk.'First, he stated that physical therapists have a better understanding of the mechanical steps of cross walk than most instructors because of their years of clinical experience in the field. He said, 'Take your hands off the steering wheel and have your feet on the floor and run your feet over a few cinder blocks so that you have a feel for how your legs move. Move the blocks to start with, but don't push them down. When you begin to feel like you are reaching, stop and finish step two. Don't make it too difficult at first, just to make it interesting to keep your attention. Be sure to take five steps in a row when doing so.' Cross walk is one of the best exercises you can perform for your self, and can be the foundation of your physical fitness program.
